VACANCY - CIVIL ENGINEER

Position Available in Musselburgh, Rosyth or Dundee


Christie Gillespie Consulting Engineers is an employee owned successful and respected Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy, with offices in Musselburgh, Rosyth and Dundee. It has an established network of repeat clients built on a reputation for a high quality of service delivery.


We are currently seeking an experienced civil engineer or senior civil engineering technician to undertake roads and drainage design on building and infrastructure projects. The role can be based in any of our three offices and will involve some travel to other offices on a regular basis.


The candidate will operate within the civil engineering team and report to the Lead Civil Engineer. The candidate will have experience in roads and drainage design being able to work on a variety of projects in the housing, industrial, commercial and retail sectors. The role consists of being responsible for the preparation of designs for roads and drainage elements of projects and liaising with the necessary public authorities to gain the necessary design approvals. 


In particular the role will involve:


  • Preparing technical design solutions for projects to meet or exceed client requirements.
  • Managing own project workload in the effective and profitable delivery of civil engineering services.
  • Effective use of industry standard software such as PDS, Civils 3D and Autocad.
  • Liaising with clients and project team professionals where necessary.
  • Delegating and supervising work carried out by junior staff.
  • Seeking out opportunities to develop new clients and sources of work as well as maintaining existing client relationships. 
  • Assessment of workload to contribute to the preparation of fee proposals and tenders for civil engineering projects and work packages.


Candidate Profile


The minimum requirements for the role are as follows:


  • HNC or degree in Civil engineering.
  • Good knowledge of regulations and design standards related to roads and drainage such as Scottish Water, CIRIA, Building Regulations, relevant planning requirements related to roads and drainage, local authority roads development guides etc.
  • Demonstrable experience of obtaining approvals for designs from statutory authorities such as councils, Scottish Water and SEPA.
  • Experience of dealing directly with clients and other building professionals such as project managers, architects and planning consultants.
  • Capability in the use of industry standard software such as PDS, Civils 3D and Autocad.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of experience in most of the role requirements described.
  • It is considered that the suitable candidate for this role is unlikely to have less than 3 years industry experience. 


The level and salary for the post will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and abilities. The package includes 33 days holiday, bonus opportunities, company pension scheme, and where appropriate relocation expenses.
