FORENSIC ENGINEERING

Forensic engineering applies engineering principles and scientific methods to uncover the root causes of failures or accidents involving materials, structures, components, or systems.

The depth and breadth of experience available from our staff enables us to investigate and report on structural failures whether these are serviceability issues such as cracking or movement or more serious events. We also have the experience and skills to provide expert advisory services related to claims and disputes involving civil and structural engineering issues including giving evidence in court.

The company has chartered engineers with a combined working experience of over 100 years covering all types of building projects in all sectors. Whether it’s a residential building, commercial structure, or industrial facility, we can apply our combined experience and employ modern diagnostic tools and methodologies using computer simulations to identify the root causes of failures and recommend robust, effective solutions.

We have been appointed on expert witness roles on a number of dispute cases and have experience in giving evidence in court. We have been recognised for our attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively and with accuracy in our reporting.

  1. Investigation of Failures: Our forensic engineers can investigate cases where a failure has led to property damage, personal injury, or economic loss.
  2. Legal Implications: The findings from our forensic engineering investigations can be crucial in legal contexts, including civil and criminal proceedings. The help establish liability and can be pivotal in health & safety legislation, contract disputes, product liability, and tort claims.
  3. Methodical Approach: Our forensic engineer’s approach is systematic and thorough, involving site inspections, evidence collection, measurements, model development, and experiments.
  4. Safety First: When arriving at site, forensic engineers first ensure that all hazards are addressed and the site is safe for analysis.
  5. Reverse Engineering: Part of the process may involve reverse engineering to determine why a component, structure, or machine failed to perform as intended.
  6. Expert Testimony: Our forensic engineers may also provide expert testimony in court, explaining their findings and the technical aspects of the case to judges and juries.
  7. Improving Safety: Ultimately, the goal of forensic Engineering is not only to find out what went wrong but also to use that knowledge to improve design, operation, and safety standards to prevent future failures.

At Christie Gillespie, our commitment is reflected in our thorough standards and our dedication to client satisfaction. We work hard to deliver solutions that not only resolve current challenges but also contribute to the long-term stability and resilience of structures.
